Weekly Mind Dump: Opportunity For A Single Lady (by Mark Tolson)

✪ We had two more attenders become members this past Sunday afternoon.

✪ My wife is a trooper. She took our baby to Beijing for vaccinations by herself. We are thankful for new friends there that were a huge help to her!

✪ The return of the stomach bug! My wife and two kids were down and out for the weekend with the stomach bug. Thankfully the rest of us didn’t get it.

✪ We heard of a home school co-op in the city and finally made contact with them last week. We attended it last week, and it seems like it is going to be a blessing for our children to attend once a week.

Opportunity For A Single Lady: We have been talking about having someone come over and help home school our children. We don’t have all the details worked out, but this person would help home school missionary children, serve in the church (Chinese or English), and have other possible opportunities that we could discuss. We have no contacts at this point and don’t know if anyone is interested (just in the idea stage, but I thought I would throw it out there). If you or anyone you know would be interested in this, please let us know. (It would probably be a yearly commitment.)

✪ Recently Read: C. S. Lewis: Master Storyteller (Christian Heroes: Then & Now) – I read this with the kids, even though it was a little boring for them to enjoy. I enjoyed it as it gave me the perspective I needed to understand better who this man was. There are many opinions on Lewis, but this book helped me wade through many of those. Understanding his life helps understand what it produced. I enjoyed it, even if his life wasn’t super eventful but boils down to a man of great knowledge, talent and wit. From the book: “The storyline of The Pilgrim’s Regress echoed Jack’s own journey, starting life in a reasonably pious home, losing hope in God through the death of his mother and his time spent in boarding schools, and finally coming full circle back to Christian piety at Oxford.” [1]

The church I grew up in made an awesome video about the future missionaries that are being raised up in the church. Check it out!

✪ Our seminary class starts back up this week. We should have one new young man starting with us. That is a total of three.

✪ We are adding “All I Have Is Christ” as our new song for both our English and Chinese services. I love this song, and I know the church will as well.

✪ We got the girls pictures professionally taken. The way they do it here is different. They make a picture book, and you can wear any of the “costumes” they have. Also, before the pictures, they do makeup for the kids. We settled halfway since we wanted more the more natural look. But they Photoshop all the pics anyways, so we will see how it turns out this time. 🙂
