Missions Training

ogtc-web-bannerThe Our Generation Training Center is for training missionaries, pastors, and church-planters.  Each year there are three 15-week trimesters: fall, spring, and summer filled with Bible teaching, practical training and real-life experience.

If fulfilled consecutively, the Bachelor of Biblical Studies in Missions program can be completed in 3 years. We have an intensive training system while still allowing for seven weeks of vacation time to be with family each year. Students can enter the training program at the beginning of any semester. The Summer Semester operates on intense modules courses often taught by visiting missionaries.

The Our Generation Training Center is a local church ministry of Vision Baptist Church dedicated to fulfilling the example of Christ outlined in  II Timothy 2:2.

“And the things that thou has heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”

As Jesus sought men to be with Him (Mark 3:14), so also, the OG Training Center seeks to use the same mentoring  approach of life on life discipleship.  Students will not only have the opportunity to be exposed to theological training but also the mentoring, “withness” aspect that is difficult  to find in the age we now live. Students will receive close, personal mentorship from the staff and missionaries of Vision Baptist Church.  Class time may end, but the teaching and learning does not!

Students will have the opportunity to begin a ministry from the ground up.  They will be taught how to start, grow and turn over that ministry before they ever arrive to their field of service.  They will have taught/preached a minimum of 100 times, learned how to disciple, and finished the course load before graduation.  Upon graduation any pastor or mission board would be honored to partner with them for the cause of World Evangelism.

One of the most important parts of the OG Training Center is the joy of  being part of a  growing, vibrant group of believers at Vision Baptist Church.  Through the leadership of Pastor Austin Gardner, students will be given ministry opportunities now that will prepare them for their ministries later.

Winning souls, learning how to baptize, how to conduct the Lord’s supper,  building  a Sunday school class, starting a bus route and discipleship are but a few of these opportunities.

There will also be times of personal and ministerial  evaluation.  Learning  the “how to’s”  will only be the first stage.  Working with them until they can actually  “do” is where the commitment and love of personal mentorship  makes the difference.

It is not a matter of just academics but also of practice – practice not theory.  In the security of a local church ministry, the OG Training Center seeks to be a net for those called to the ministry where they might fall, be picked  up, fall be picked up again,  and effectually run the race that God has set before them.

We believe students who train for the field should train on the field. The staff of Vision Baptist Church and the Our Generation Training Center have served on the mission field.

Two semesters of the student’s training must be completed on the mission field training personally under the missionaries.

One semester will be completed at the Our Generation satellite campus in Arequipa, Peru, South America, the other on-the-field semester will be completed in one of the Our Generation satellite ministries of the student’s choice:

  • Argentina
  • Chile
  • China
  • Morocco
  • England
  • South Africa

The two on-the-field semesters with OGTC may be completed between the 4th and 8th semesters. The student may opt to take both semesters successively in Peru or split them up between the Peru Campus and any other of the six possible fields of service.

Each on-the-field semester will consist of thirteen complete weeks (around 3 full months) on site and two weeks of debriefing at the Our Generation Training Center. All foreign missionaries who work with the Our Generation Training Center have been trained through the program themselves, are some of the sharpest in their fields of service, and have a heart to train others.
