Daily Devotions

And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire. And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven, Neh. 1:3-4

When Nehemiah saw the destruction of Israel he was moved with compassion. He didn’t just hear the words and let them go. He was touched and realized that he had to do something. He began to pray and seek God. He is ultimately going to go and help but first of all he was moved with compassion. I must always be moved with compassion. If I don’t care for others then I will never do anything. I must always put myself in their shoes and care for them.
