December ’13 Prayer Letter (by Scott Newton)

Dear Praying Friends,

The New Year is here! It’s always interesting to watch how different people look at this time of year. For many it is a depressing time, as they look back on failures from the past year and make resolutions to make themselves better in the coming one. For the Christian, it should be far from depressing: though we have failed countless times, Christ (who is our life, our righteousness, our strength, and our victory) has never once failed. Though we are far from perfect and have no real hope of making ourselves anything more than what we are, we are more than conquerors through Him, and the coming year will be like every other one: a year full of grace, and as we submit to Christ, a year of growth and joy regardless of what comes.

I thought it would be fitting to list some of the great things He has done in the past year, and then what we are asking in faith to see in ’14.

2013 in Review:

  • Finished Deputation! After 2.5 years, 300 churches visited, and more than 160k miles driven, we finished a chapter of our lives that God used greatly to grow our faith, make many new relationships, see souls reborn into the family of God, and lift up the cause of world evangelism.
  • Moved to Spain! Crossed the ocean by ship, set up a house, settled into our sponsor church, started language school.
  • Found out about baby #3! We should know the gender tomorrow, so we’ll keep you updated.
  • Preached in Spanish! Got to preach a conference in Madrid in not-so-awesome Spanish, but can’t wait to do more this month.

2014 Goals and Hopes:

  • Finish studying the state of Gospel saturation of all the surrounding cities of Barcelona.
  • Finish Language School! Really going to keep pushing hard as this is priority #1.
  • Continue working to encourage and teach believers, and evangelize nonbelievers that God has allowed us to meet and develop friendships with. Please pray especially for Martí and Eli, who I believe God is drawing in a big way.
  • Big flyer distribution push in Spring to make new contacts for starting Bible studies.
  • Launch a new church! We are currently looking into either early summer or fall as soon as school starts for a launch date. Pray that we will be wise enough to not rush too much and do it right, but not be complacent either.

As always, thanks to all of you who faithfully pray for us and the work here in Spain, and we pray that God richly blesses your 2014!

Yours for His Harvest,

The Newtons
